Open Surgery

Every morning we have an Open Surgery which is conducted on a “sit and wait” basis. It is not possible to pre-book as patients are seen in the order of arrival. You may arrive from opening and register at reception. Surgeries start at 8.30am and finish at 10.00am – you must arrive and register with reception prior to 10.00am to be seen.

We are usually able to offer you a choice of doctor at these Open Surgeries, however doctors do vary from day to day, and occasionally a doctor may close their list on a particular morning if their surgery has become too busy. If this happens you will however be offered an alternative doctor who may have a smaller list for that morning.

You may have participated in our annual Patient Survey which has been conducted for the last 3 years – the results of these show an overwhelming support for our Open Surgery arrangements as they ensure that patients can always be seen without delay (often on the same-day, or at the latest on the next morning).

Our nurses do not operate Open Surgery, and all of their patients need to pre-book.

Appointment Surgeries

All surgeries, other that Open Surgeries (above) are by appointment. We can usually offer you an appointment with a doctor within 48 hours, and often within 24. Appointment surgeries operate in the mornings for some doctors, midday, and in the early evenings.

Attached Staff Appointments

We have a number of staff who hold appointments here on a regular basis. Patients will usually see these specialists at the request of their usual doctor, and the appointment will be made via reception. In particular, blood samples will be taken at set times of the day by our visiting phlebotomist.

Timing is significant here, as the phlebotomist covers a number of practices locally, and the taking of the blood samples must coincide with their timed delivery to the hospital laboratory courier service. You will therefore usually be given a set time to attend when a blood sample is needed.
